Evolving Together: A Message from the DanceSafe Board
Last Updated: May 28, 2025
To our beloved community,
After careful consideration, the DanceSafe Board of Directors decided to make an executive leadership change to align with the evolving priorities of the organization. As of 5/28/2025, we have decided to part ways with Mitchell Gomez and he will no longer serve as Executive Director.
As the current board focuses on how to support DanceSafe grow sustainably into our next chapter, we identified the need for a fresh perspective among executive leadership. For nonprofit organizations, changing leadership during times of expansion is a strategic decision to support healthy evolution as it rises to meet the changing needs of its constituent communities.
Mitchell served DanceSafe for over eleven years as the national Outreach Director starting in 2014 and as Executive Director since 2017. He saw the organization through significant growth and change within the harm reduction landscape. We appreciate and honor his service and contributions to our mission and wish him the best in his future endeavors. We are proud of what we have been able to accomplish with Mitchell’s support and are enthusiastic about the future.
Jessica Breemen is stepping in to serve as Interim Executive Director while the board conducts a search for the next person who will hold this position. She brings a wealth of experience and dedication into this role, and we are grateful to have her.
The board will initiate a search for a new executive director in the coming weeks and will share the job posting soon.
Many thanks to everyone across our DanceSafe community — chapter leaders, volunteers, contractors, staff, collaborators, and supporters — who put their hearts into our mission each and every day. Your dedication, skills, and perspectives are the foundation of our work. We honor the ways you continue to show up and move this mission forward, especially during times of collective struggle. We are here to support you however possible.
Finally, we wanted to express our deepest gratitude to our chapter leaders and volunteers for your time and energy cultivating communities of care, love, and respect. We are committed to evolving in a manner that extends more support, resources, and engagement to you and your chapters. We see you, we hear you, and we appreciate you.
Thank you for your continued support,
Monique, Mikayla, Wendy, Steven, Danielle, & Rhana
