Step 1: Marquis
Use our “reagent drug checking instructions” page to learn how to use reagents correctly.
In the presence of MDMA, Marquis will quickly turn to black. You might also see purple at first.
Step 2: Simon’s
Simon’s can help distinguish between MDMA and MDA. Simon’s turns blue in the presence of MDMA, and may either not react or turn a dark grey with a hint of green in the presence of MDA. Read the section “reading the results” below before testing – it’s important to understand what you’re looking for as you test.
Step 3: Froedhe
Very rarely, drugs called the “APBs” might be sold as MDMA/ecstasy. Froedhe is most useful for testing something that was sold to you as an APB (like 5-MAPB or 6-APB).
It can be difficult to tell the difference between an MDMA/MDA reaction and an APB reaction, and the APBs are very uncommon drugs. Do not assume that you are getting an APB reaction unless your Froehde has very, very clear purple in it.
There are many different drugs being sold under the names “Molly” or “ecstasy.” Both names are supposed to refer to a drug called MDMA, but it’s common for “Molly” or “ecstasy” to actually contain something else altogether. Hundreds of people have died and thousands more hospitalized after ingesting what they thought was MDMA, but ended up being something else.
Many people believe that they can tell which drug they have by looking at, tasting, touching, or smelling it, but there are over 25,000 drugs on the market. Whether you have pressed pills, crystals, or powder, there is no way to tell what drug you might have without testing it first, and only a lab can actually confirm what’s in your drugs.
