Clod McPete is a multimedia glass artist, harm reductionist, and lover from the Midwest.
A STEM professional and an activist in midwestern harm reduction, Clod is a multidisciplinary artist currently focused on recycled stained glass. They are a co-organizer of Resist & Abolish The Stigma (RATS) Harm Reduction, which supports people who use drugs and are facing homelessness, and a member of the Hoosier Healthy Recovery Coalition. Clod is an avid reader, a child of counselors, and a beneficiary of Shulgin gifts to the world.

Glass of Psychonautics
A stained glass mosaic affixed to clear acrylic, grouted with mortar and framed in zinc came. Shards of Shulgin laboratory glass are shaped and soldered into a pair of eyeglasses that sit over the eyes of the mosaic portrait, with further shards affixed glass on glass. Jump rings soldered to the frame allow the piece to hang against a wall or in a window, where the light refracts through it.
Process: Stained glass reclaimed from other artists’ discards is cut and laid glass on glass over clear acrylic, then grouted with mortar and finished with a zinc came frame. The lab glass is shaped and soldered into the eyeglass form and set into the surface with silicone.

Artist Statement
I became a self-taught mosaicist as a way to make use of incredibly beautiful stained glass that was to be discarded by stained glass artists. Tryptamines and phenethylamines have been an enormous part of my personal development and trauma work throughout my coming of age and into adulthood. Volunteerism, community, and personal autonomy are important values in my life. Much of what I create, I give away, which feels much in the spirit of Ann and Sasha. I am grateful to participate in honoring the legacy of two who made such an impact with their time, both for those close to them and afar.

Clod McPete completed this piece on August 12, 2026, over roughly 70 hours of work from ideation to finished mosaic. It is signed on the backside of the acrylic. The lab glass used in the eyeglasses comes from Batch 2 and Batch 5.
This mosaic was designed to be hung indoors, optionally in a window. Clean gently with water alone, using a microfiber cloth, paper towel, or toothbrush. It is not sealed to withstand consistent or significant dampness.
The piece is fragile in two ways: the silicone affixation of irregular, curved lab glass to the mosaic glass mounts, and the slightly flexible nature of acrylic as a base for maintaining translucence. Minimize movement and transport where possible, and when transporting, keep the piece completely flat on the smooth side so no weight rests on the side holding the three-dimensional lab glass.
If white oxide develops on the solder of the glasses — a residue from the flux used in soldering — you may slip a paper towel gently and carefully behind the glasses to give them a more dedicated brushing with a toothbrush. Avoid Windex and other ammonia-based cleaners, which increase the risk of solder corrosion.
