Rebecca Wilkinson is an artist, art therapist, and co-founder of the Psychedelic Art Therapy Network. Kimler (KC) Corey, Jr., is a technologist and glass artist whose practice explores the intersections of art, physics, and metaphysics.
Rebecca designed and painted the boxes and the scenes within them. KC handcrafted the glass marbles, incorporating Shulgin laboratory glass in dialogue with Rebecca’s artistic vision.

Shulgin Pathways and Portal #1: Blue Flower Marble
The first of two box sets in the Shulgin Pathways and Portals series, built around a Blue Flower marble formed from melted Shulgin stoppers from Batch #28 combined with colored borosilicate glass.
Two 3.5" x 3.5" plywood boxes are joined with glue and screws into a single standing form, painted with acrylic inks and sealed with an isolation coat and varnish. Wood panel inserts were cut so the marble sits inset — secured, but never so recessed that the scene around it disappears. The marble is set with epoxy.

Shulgin Pathways and Portal #2: Purple Galaxy Marble
The second of two box sets in the Shulgin Pathways and Portals series, built around a Purple Galaxy marble formed from melted Shulgin stoppers from Batch #28 combined with colored borosilicate glass.
Two 3.5" x 3.5" plywood boxes are joined with glue and screws into a single standing form, painted with acrylic inks and sealed with an isolation coat and varnish. Every marble KC makes is its own unique creation, and the scenes Rebecca paints around it are designed to complement and feature that particular marble — so each set is a variation on the series’ visual and conceptual themes rather than a repeat of it.

About the Series
These miniatures show two different worlds.
The first is the natural world: the hills of Northern California where Ann and Sasha lived, and Sasha’s lab on the Shulgin farm, where he steadfastly synthesized so many psychedelic compounds and then shared them with close friends, collaborating with them to learn more about their effects. That work included discovering and exploring their therapeutic potential, which they shared with prominent psychotherapists in the SF and Oakland area — a foundation for the therapeutic applications of these extraordinary substances.
The second is the extraordinary realms those compounds can take us to, represented by a spiral — a symbol very personally meaningful to Ann Shulgin — that ascends into a glass marble formed from melted droppers out of Sasha’s lab.
On the outside of each box set are small motifs. On one side is a stylized recreation inspired by some of Ann Shulgin’s watercolors, shared with permission by Wendy Tucker, Ann’s daughter. On the other side are whimsical graphics from Sasha’s notebooks.

Behind the work
Process
Designing the series took about 10 hours: drafting the paintings that would accompany the marbles, working out the spiral, placing Sasha’s lab in the scene, settling the relationship between the two boxes and the color choices, and cutting wood panel inserts that let each marble sit deep enough to be secure without recessing the images out of view.
Each marble took roughly 5 to 10 hours — preparing the glass, melting it, forming the marble, and firing it. Painting each piece took about 10 hours, with another 10 hours spent constructing, assembling, and finishing.
Meet the artists
About the Artists
Rebecca Wilkinson is an artist, art therapist, and co-founder of the Psychedelic Art Therapy Network. She is co-author of the seminal article “Psychedelic Art Therapy: The Intersection of Psychedelics, Creativity, and Art Therapy” and the author and illustrator of The Desert Mandalas Coloring Book. Rebecca’s life has been devoted to bringing the benefits of making art and engaging in the creative process to others.
Originally from the East Coast, she transplanted herself to the Arizona Sonoran Desert, a source of inspiration for much of her artwork. She now lives between Tucson — with some cats and her husband KC, whose marbles are featured in these pieces — and the East Coast, with her mother and twin sister. Rebecca designed and painted the boxes and the scenes within them.

Kimler (KC) Corey, Jr. is a technologist and glass artist whose practice explores the intersections of art, physics, and metaphysics. His creative interests span glasswork, luthier work, rune-making, electronics, and philosophy. KC handcrafted the glass marbles for this project, incorporating Shulgin laboratory glass in dialogue with Rebecca’s artistic vision. He can be found on Instagram as @tucsonglassworks.
Specifications & Care Instructions
Both box sets were completed on August 10, 2026, and both marbles were made from Batch #28 of Shulgin glass. Each piece carries Rebecca Wilkinson’s and Kimler Corey’s initials on the sides of the boxes, with their signatures on the back panel.
A box set can sit on its own as a freestanding sculptural element or hang on a wall — each has hooks and wire on the back.
Each set is hand-painted, archivally prepared to prevent fading, and varnished to further protect it from light exposure. The marbles are adhered with epoxy to ensure they remain attached.
