#TestIt Alert Issued for Portland, OR and the General Public

A clear crystalline substance was tested using both reagent drug checking as well as fentanyl test strips by a local harm reductionist following an overdose. The sample was sold as methamphetamine; however, the substance tested positive for both the presence of fentanyl (or fentanyl analog) and methamphetamine.
As stated above, this was discovered after an individual in the community consumed the substance thinking it only contained methamphetamine and experienced an opioid overdose. Thankfully, this individual did not use alone and was revived with four doses of naloxone.
This instance demonstrates the importance of using both reagent drug checking as well as fentanyl test strips for all substances. This is especially concerning as methamphetamine is a common adulterant for many other substances such as cocaine and MDMA. Remember, fentanyl is lethal at small doses. You can learn more about how to use fentanyl test strips here.
We urge our community to keep in mind that drug markets are expansive and these substances may appear in locations other than the submission’s origins. Always test before you ingest to avoid ingesting a misrepresented substance! Purchase your DanceSafe drug checking kit here.
If you test a misrepresented substance, submit your drug checking results to us to be featured in a #TestIt Alert.
