A sample of white “rocks” that was sold as cocaine tested positive for fentanyl in Willimantic, Connecticut. The sample was tested twice using fentanyl test strips, and both results were positive for the presence of fentanyl (or a fentanyl analogue). The Marquis, Mecke, and Mandelin reagents were also used to test the sample, which showed results of potential amphetamine also being present in the sample, although the tests were not conclusive.

This instance demonstrates the importance of using both reagents and fentanyl test strips when conducting drug checking for all substances. Remember, fentanyl is lethal at small doses. If you can, always carry Naloxone on you. You can learn more about how to use fentanyl test strips here.
