We Updated Our Fentanyl Test Strip Instructions!
Last Updated: October 31, 2025
We gave our fentanyl test strip instructions a glow-up!
Same strips, smarter steps — all based on science, community feedback, and real-world use.
Why the update?
At DanceSafe, we’re committed to evidence-based, community-informed harm reduction. After years of seeing how people actually use our test strips in the wild, and with guidance from Dr. Marya Lieberman (who helped develop the strips), we decided it was time for a refresh.
We also teamed up with a working group of researchers, chemists, harm reductionists, and manufacturers to help standardize instructions across brands so that testing is more consistent, no matter which strips you’re working with.
What’s new?
- Simpler Quick Method: Easier steps = fewer mistakes.
- New dilution ratio: Mix 10 mg powder with 5 mL of water (≈ 1 micro-scoop per 1 teaspoon).
- Handy-dandy water table! Our website now has a chart showing how much water to use for up to 1 gram — no need to math.
- False positives: Testing MDMA or meth? We recommend using twice as much water.
- Standard instructions across brands: We aligned our steps with other brands – the science inside the strips may differ, but how you use them stays the same.
Why this method?
You might remember the old “50 mg (5 scoops)” method, but after years of testing, research, and feedback, we found the 10 mg / 5 ml (1 scoop per teaspoon) ratio is easier for most people to measure accurately — and user consistency takes priority when it comes to real-world safety.
All strips have limits, and false positives happen. That’s why it’s best to test everything you plan to use, double-check any weird results, and remember: these are harm-reduction tools, not magic wands.
Quick reminders
- Test everything you intend to consume!
- If it’s MDMA or meth, and it comes up positive, add more water and try again. For every 10 mg (1 micro scoop) of MDMA or meth, add 2 tsp (10 ml) of water.
- Use our water table to make mixing easy
- Make sure to follow our instructions carefully.
- Stay kind, stay curious, stay safe!
