A round, light cyan blue tablet with ‘A | 215’ on one side and no markings on other side was sourced in San Diego, CA as a ‘Norco 10/325’ tablet (Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen), an opioid pain reliever. The sample, however, which was submitted from Bakersfield, CA, nearly five hours away from San Diego, contained 2 active-parts fentanyl and one active-part heroin.

The sample also contained one active-part Acetaminophen (a non-opioid analgesic) and trace amounts of 6-Acetylcodeine (an impurity of illicitly manufactured heroin) and 6-Acetylmorphine (an intermediate metabolite between heroin and morphine). According to EcstasyData.org, there was no reaction for the Marquis, Mecke, and Mandelin reagents.

There are many ways to identify a counterfeit pill (though it is still possible for counterfeit pills to look pharmaceutically produced in every way). If you notice imperfect markings, asymmetrical shaping, inconsistent thickness, no waxy covering, or if it has a chalky consistency, and dissolves or disintegrates when held, it is likely to be counterfeit.

We urge our community to keep in mind that drug markets are expansive and that this tablet may appear in locations other than San Diego or Bakersfield. Always test before you ingest to avoid ingesting misrepresented substances, and carry naloxone on you at all times if it is accessible to you.
